摘要

亚当·斯密是杰出的经济学家，也是优秀的伦理学家，他的两部传世佳作《道

德情操论》和《国富论》，历经两百多年依然影响至今，他的经济伦理思想也为现

时代经济伦理的研究提供了最初始的理论资源。本文从亚当·斯密经济伦理思想

产生的历史背景和理论渊源入手，通过对两本著作的解读，分析了“看不见的手”

的理论内涵及作用机制，探讨了“看不见的手” 理论的伦理价值，从历史和现实

的角度，阐述了这一理论本身所具有的现代意义及其局限性。

斯密认为人自利的本性是社会发展的源动力，这一本性若能在恰当的范围内

发挥，那么其在道德上是具有合理性的，这也成为“看不见的手”发挥作用的先

决条件。本文通过对亚当·斯密三次提到“看不见的手”特殊语境的分析，认为

它是顺应了自然秩序而和谐发展的，不仅源源不断地创造财富，而且自然地将社

会财富分配到每个人。然而，“看不见的手”的运行总要受到一系列环境因素的

影响，这一理论的优越性在自由平等的法制社会以及公序良德的伦理环境下才能

得到充分发挥，它的运作需要社会制度的合理设置以及与经济活动相契合的准备

条件，因此自由竞争的市场环境、公正旁观者的内心监督、正义法律的制定也就

成为“看不见的手”发挥作用的客观机制。它一方面保障了人自身的权利，另一

方面协调了人与人之间平等、公平的社会关系从而实现了由自利向互利的转变，

并引导个人利益与社会利益最终走向一致，使得人们追求自身利益的同时也满足

了社会经济发展的需要。

“看不见的手”在社会活动中能够自发调节利益关系并始终保持均衡，因此

它也成为维系社会伦理秩序的内在力量，但是它本身所具有的盲目性、自发性等

特点会扰乱这一秩序，在财富分配过程及结果中所造成的不公平会引起一系列社

会伦理问题，同时这一理论本身的诉求仅仅停留在创造财富的良俗社会而没能建

立起充满美德的经济社会，即缺乏伦理价值观的升华。当然，“看不见的手”理

论所固有的局限性，并不影响它在市场经济发展过程中所发挥的作用与具有的伦

理价值，分析总结这一理论的功过得失，为现实提供有益的借鉴。

ABSTRACT

Adam Smith is not only an outstanding economist, but also an excellent ethicist.

After more than two hundred years, his two famous books《The theory of moral

sentiments》and《The wealth of the nations》now still have influence on our society. His

economic ethics also provides the most initial theoretical resources for modern business

ethics research. The article begins with the historical background and theoretical origin

of Adam Smith's economic ethics, and then through the interpretation of the two books,

analyzes the invisible hand’s theory connotation and explores the invisible hand’s

mechanism of action and its ethical value. From historical and practical aspects, the

article also expounds the limitations of the theory itself and its modern values.

Smith thinks that self-interest is the driving force of social development. If this

nature can work within the proper range, then it is morally rational, which will become

the invisible hand's prerequisite for the role. Through the analysis of the special context

which Adam Smith’s mentioned “invisible hand” for three times , the article considers

that the "invisible hand "is complied with the natural order and harmonious

development and it not only creates wealth continuously, but also distributes social

wealth to everyone naturally. However, "invisible hand" has been affected by a series of

environmental factors. The superiority of the theory will be fully realized in the liberal

legal system society and the ethical environment in good public order, and its operation

needs the reasonable setting of the social system. Consequently, the market environment

with impartial competition, the inner supervision with impartial spectators and the

formulation of legal justice will become the objective mechanism for the "invisible

hand" to play its role. On the one hand, "invisible hand” can guarantee the human rights;

on the other hand, it also coordinates the equal and fair social relations between human

beings to achieve the shift from self-interest to mutual benefit. At the same time, it leads

the personal interests and social interests ultimately towards consistency and makes

people not only pursue their own interests, but also meet the needs of the development

of social economy.

The "invisible hand" in the social activity can spontaneous adjust interests relations

and always maintain a balance, thus it has become the inner strength to sustain the

social ethical order. But its inherent blindness, spontaneity and other features will also

disrupt this order, and the unfairness of the distribution of wealth will cause a series of

social ethical problems. At the same time, the theory itself only appeals to create the

society with good order and wealth, but fails to establish the economic society full of

virtues, that is to say, it lacks the sublimation of ethical values .Certainly, the inherent

limitations of " Invisible hand "theory do not affect its playing role during the

development of the market economy and its ethical value. The analysis and the

summary of the theory's merits and demerits are aiming to provide a beneficial

reference for the reality.

绪论

一、选题依据及研究意义

选取亚当·斯密“看不见的手”的理论内涵及其伦理价值作为论文选题主要

基于以下两点考虑：

首先，当今社会经济学领域仅仅以单纯的经济数学模型、效率最大化等分析

方法作为研究经济增长的主要手段，而忽视探究经济秩序、优化资源配置、提高

全社会福利水平的内在伦理动因以及与其相适应的伦理道德规范，使我们不得不

思考市场经济的发展与道德水平下降是否存在“二律悖反”的问题。亚当·斯密

作为市场经济理论的奠基者，在他的两部著作中对人的本性以及在商业社会中人

们道德发展状况进行了论述，并以“看不见的手”作为主线阐述经济和伦理的关

系，调和利己与利他的矛盾，这为人们解决现实利益冲突提供了理论上的启示。

从道德的维度剖析经济，可以更深刻地认识和把握经济的发展趋势，对我们正确

处理当今经济与道德的关系具有重要的指导意义。

其次，“看不见的手”作为经济自由主义的典型代表，在相当长的时期内对市

场经济的发展起了推动作用，使得经济秩序得以维护和运行。然而伴随着市场经

济的发展，在现实的困境中对“看不见的手”的每一次经济与道德拷问都使我们

对斯密的思想产生了误解与怀疑。斯密是个人自由主义还是极端个人主义？他所

崇尚的自然法则是不是意味着放弃了国家法制？斯密所谓的尊重人的本性就是轻

视社会规则和公共秩序吗？针对这些问题，以“看不见的手”作为研究对象，从

伦理学的角度出发探寻它本身所蕴含的思想内涵及其伦理价值，有助于我们真实

客观地理解亚当·斯密的理论。

“看不见的手”的理论内涵及其伦理价值的研究能使我们深入、完整地把握斯

密思想体系的精髓，是我们研究经济伦理的宝贵理论资源，有助于打破国内对斯

密思想研究领域较为单一的局面，从而获得更多有益的启示和借鉴。也为我们建

立与市场经济相适应的伦理道德，提供了最原初的理论资源和参照框架，对于推

进我国文化道德建设，保障社会主义市场经济健康有序发展,有着积极的现实指导

意义。

二、国内外研究综述及评论

自亚当·斯密思想受到普遍关注以来，“看不见的手”作为重要理论之一被学

者广泛研究，只有从亚当·斯密经济伦理思想的视阈中才能把握“看不见的手”
