ABSTRACT
Traffic-transportation is the basic and proactive industry of national economy and its
development has enormous bearing on national economy. Our industry and agriculture
have been advancing rapidly, besides, the foundation of Chinese economy has also been
increasingly boosted up. With the rapid urbanization process and the developing trend
of “regional Economic integration”, we have required more and more traffic
Convenience between urban agglomerations, cities or city-country, especially intercity
transportation. The relationship between intercity transportation and the regional
economic development has drawn more and more attention.
In this paper, there is a study on the relationship between intercity transportation and
regional economic development. From the view of theory, they undoubtedly influence
each other and boost each other. Urban traffic impact on the performance of regional
economic, like: impact of direct investment, promote industrial restructuring, promote
regional economic integration and promote economic changes in the surrounding and so
on. Regional Economic Development on the impact of urban transport traffic mainly on
the attraction of investment in transport infrastructure and so on. Based on the
qualitative analysis, two methods of quantitative analysis were carried out in the paper,
Traffic Economic Elasticity, and Multiple Linear Regression. Among these ways, the
first method can analyze the adaptability between the regional transportation and
economic growth as a whole. The second method can estimate whether the correlation
between each intercity traffic ways and the regional economic development level is
positive or negative.
Based on the above methods, this paper takes city of Nanjing and carries out qualitative
and quantitative analysis. The results indicate that there is strong connection between
each intercity traffic ways and the regional economic development. The intercity
transportation also accelerates the progress of Urbanization and the form of urban
agglomeration. In the final paper, based on some existing problems in urban transport
development of Nanjing, several advices is offered. The integrated analysis and
prospect of results are presented.
